Books and eBooks

Print Collection

Oxford has 60,000 volumes onsite. Emory Libraries also share an offsite print facility, the Library Service Center (LSC), with the Georgia Institute of Technology. New Acquisitions and popular bestsellers are highlighted in the lobby of the Oxford Library to the left of the circulation desk. Faculty, staff, and students can request and access items from any of Emory's nine libraries.

Use Library Search to search physical and digital holdings/collections in the Emory Libraries. To search the holdings of other libraries, use WorldCat. If Emory does not own the book you need, request it through Interlibrary Loan or make a request via the purchase request form.

eBook Collection

Emory owns or subscribes to over one million eBooks to support teaching and research. These eBooks are available on a variety of platforms and from a wide array of publishers including JSTOR, Project Muse, Springer, APA, Gale, Overdrive, and ProQuest eBook Central among others. Use Library Search to locate much of this content.

Library Call Number Guide

Dewey Decimal Classification

Oxford College Library uses Dewey Decimal Classification to organize books. Dewey Decimal numbers have two parts; the first part of the number is assigned based on the subject matter of the book. The second part of the number (or “cutter”) is typically determined by the author’s last name and the title of the work.

Books are put in alphanumerical order, with the first part treated as a whole number, so 800 comes before 801, and 800.05 comes before 800.1.

The second part is a separate sequence beginning with a letter, shelved in order within the section that matches the first part, so 800.1 f45c comes before 800.1 m23b.
